ABC Top 20s of the past decade and year

Hans, one half of our dynamic IT duo, recently looked into the most popular books at ABC this past decade and the past 12 months.

A Game of Thrones by George R R MartinLo and behold!  A Game of Thrones leads the charge this past decade!  Sure, the much-lauded TV show has helped, but we couldn’t keep this title on the shelf before, either.  It’s closely followed by an American classic, a Business title, the one and only Banksy, and a British classic.  We love the variety of that top 5!  Also, kudos to Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow, which was only published in 2012 (this particular edition) and so has had 6 years less of sales compared to the other titles.

M-Train - Patti SmithThe past 12 months has seen the ladies take charge: Patti Smith, Anne Frank, and Harper Lee make up the Top 3, followed by Daniel Kahneman again, and a card game.  Again, we love this variety!  🙂  The 2015 Pulitzer Prize winner also proved a hot ticket, as did a Japanese way to tidy your house and your life.  These Top 20s are definitely something we want to look at again next year!

So, how many have you read?  I’ve managed 10 from the ‘decade’ list, and 6 from the ’12 months’ list.  #readinggoals

Also, we’ve noticed an absence of Harry Potter (although Deathly Hallows was published 9 years ago)(NINE YEARS!)(We’re feeling decidedly old…).  O.o  What other titles are you surprised to see or not see on these lists?

For more top-selling book lists, have a look at UK Business Insider’s Top 20 best-selling books of 2016 so far (nr. 1 hasn’t even been published!).  Or look at the surprising results when the Library of Congress asked its public this year to choose 65 books by US authors that had a profound effect on American life (full list can be found here).  And of course, don’t forget our ABC Favorites, many of which double on these Top 20s below!
