Description Nolan doesn't see darkness when he closes his eyes. Instead, he's transported into the mind of Amara, a girl living in a different world. Nolan's life in his small Arizona town is full of history tests, family tension, and laundry; his parents think he has epilepsy, judging from his frequent blackouts. Amara's world is full of magic and danger-she's a mute servant girl who's tasked with protecting a renegade princess. Nolan is only an observer in Amara's world-until he learns to control her. At first, Amara is terrified. Then, she's furious. But to keep the princess-and themselves-alive, they'll have to work together and discover the truth behind their connection. A fascinating premise, clearly and compellingly written and imagined by a startlingly original debut writer.
Otherbound - Staff Choice by Tiemen This book is awesome.
Usually I try to avoid superlatives like awesome because you run the risk of overhyping a book without telling anything about why it's so great. But, this book is made of awesome. Pure and simple.
Just the premise alone makes it worth to read Otherbound. This is not your trite Macguffin or Chosen one fantasy plot. Oh no, this is some highly original never-seen-before fantasy. This is gateway fantasy - ordinary person on earth ends up in a fantasy world - but with one major Inceptionesque twist added to it. When you read Otherbound you will definitely start to notice how many times a day you blink your eyes.
With a diverse and strongly characterized cast, Otherbound is a great debut. I hope this is the first of many books by Corinne Duyvis.
