ABC News: RECON 2.0: Manga, Anime and Cosplay at ABC

Amsterdam: Saturday, September 15th

Place: ABC Amsterdam, ABC Treehouse and Spui square
Time: 12.00-17.00
Cost: €5,- to participate in the various ABC Treehouse events. Buy tickets at the store on the day itself 10.00-14.00

ReCon originally started as a way for publisher Tokyopop to showcase its upcoming titles in the UK, especially in places where fans would not be able to attend to the big comic book expos taking place further away. When Tokyopop folded, to the sorrow of manga fans everywhere, comics distributor Diamond took over. They are determined to keep the event thriving: organizing mini conventions together with bookstores and libraries not just for manga, but also for anime and games, and all the fabulous costumes that they inspire.

Previous editions of ReCon in the UK have become known as great ways to meet like-minded souls in the area. See lots of photos of past ReCons on the ReCon facebook page. To start planning your outfit, have a look at the youtube video of our 2007 ABC Gothic and Lolita event for more inspiration.

The last details of the ReCon 2.0 event at ABC are still being finalized, but this is the line-up so far:

A Cosplay Contest on Spui Square in front of ABC Amsterdam, hosted and judged by Diamond Comics . You can wear handmade or purchased costumes and use the whole Spui Square as your catwalk from 14.00 onwards. Please register at the store before 12.00. The winners of the best and most orginal costumes will be announced at 17.00.

Manga Drawing Workshops hosted by Mangafique and the Mangaschool:

Manga Art Competition:
Bring along your own manga artwork for our one day special exhibition and a chance to win a great prize. If participating, bring your artwork to the store between 10.00 and 12.00 (ask for Rick Lightstone).
