Patti's visit to ABC last year was a huge success but a last minute thing and so we had to disappoint lots of fans who were not able to come and meet Patti. Her 2012 concert at Paradiso also sold out quickly and so we are very happy that Patti is coming back to Amsterdam, to Paradiso AND.... to ABC!
Published in 2010, the world-wide bestseller, Just Kids, a memoir of her days in New York with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, was awarded a National Book Award.
About Just Kids: The first years they spent together in the late sixties were hungry and intimate, both kids driven to make pure art and to take care of each other. Mapplethorpe died young, his photographs and collages controversial and unapologetic. Smith wrote poetry and drew, was his model and muse and supported them both working in bookstores. Music came later after Sam Shepard and others encouraged her to read her poetry aloud. Just Kids begins as a love story and ends as an elegy. A salute to New York city in the late sixties and seventies, the book is a prelude to the fame which Smith and Mapplethorpe obtained.
Smith released a new album last year, Banga, and a re-issue of her 1992 memoir, Woolgathering.
Woolgathering is a small, luminous memoir in which Patti Smith revisits the most sacred experiences of her early years. The re-issue is augmented with her photographs and illustrations and includes a new autobiographical piece entitled Two Worlds.
Poet, songwriter, biographer, visual artist and musician, Smith is also a mother to Jackson and Jesse, from her marriage to the late Fred “Sonic” Smith. In 2005, the French Ministry of Culture awarded Smith the prestigious title of Commandeur Des Arts Et Des Lettres. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
