10% Discount - 7 out of 10 ABC Customers have it!

You qualify for the 10% discount if you are:

a customer who has bought an ABC Discount Card for 7 Euro, valid for 1 year from the day of purchase
a student with a valid ID
a teacher who has applied for a (free) ABC Teachers card
an employee of a company ABC has a special ABC Card deal with, who has applied on-line for a (free) ABC card
55+ and it is a Monday
65+ and have ID to prove it
holder of a Cultureel Jongeren Paspoort (CJP)
holder of a Stadspas (Amsterdam)
holder of an Ooievaarspas (The Hague)

What's the advantage?

Well, if the book costs 20 Euro, then you only pay 18 Euro.
Also, if you are buying on behalf of a company, it is possible to claim the BTW and this can lead up to savings of 31%!
It's valid on all books, games, magazines and sale items.

How long is it valid?

The card's validity of 12 months starts on the day of purchase.
The 10% discount is immediately applicable on items purchased simultaneously with the card.

How do I purchase a card?

In Store: You can buy one at any time! Just ask at any cash desk when you go to pay for your selected items.
Online: It is also possible to buy a card when you order a book on-line and would like it to be sent to you.
Once you've registered (or logged in, if you already have a web account) you can select the option for a discount card on the page 3 of the check-out process. The discount is valid with your purchase.

How do I renew my card?

In Store: When next you're visiting us and go to pay for your selected items.
Online: You can buy a new card when you order a book on-line and would like it to be sent to you.

How do I use my discount card online?

As soon as you've made your selection, you can proceed to the check-out process.
Once you've registered (or logged in if you already have a web account) and reach the page 2 of the check-out process you'll be able to fill in your discount card number (if it's valid).

Special Discounts

Large Quantity Discount - Buy more, pay less!

Ordering large quantities (more than 9 copies) of a single title entitles you to a discount.
Specific information can be found by following the large quantity order discount information link on each detailed title information page
Discount: 15% (10 - 29 copies) 20% (30 - 59 copies) 25% (59+ copies)
To avoid any confusion: The ABC 10% Card discount is not added to these discounts.

55+ Mondays

People aged 55+ receive 10% off on mondays. All you need to do is show us proof of your age. We'll accept your driver's license, passport, or national or other ID card with your date of birth. You can register your details in our customer database to be kept informed on our special deals and we'll also be able to verify your discount eligibility should you forget to bring ID with you.
To avoid any confusion: If you still have a valid ABC discount card you will not be entitled to a 20% discount on Mondays.

65+ ABC Gold Card

Anyone over 65 years receives 10% off if they show us proof of age. The free ABC Gold Card can also be obtained by registering at either store.
The theme of 2008's Dutch National Book Week - which translates rather clumsily to "Of Old People: The Third Age and Literature" - inspired us to create a special, funky ABC Gold Card, especially for our older customers. Those are already registered with ABC received their ABC Gold Card during Book Week.

CJP Discount

Teacher's Discount Cards

A Teacher's Discount Card entitles you to a 10% discount on all full-priced books, magazines, games, merchandise and food at our stores. This discount is valid for both professional and personal purchases. Orders for schools automatically get a 10% discount and shipping costs never exceed € 14.

Each teacher, not only English teachers, is entitled to a personal card. The cards initial purpose is to encourage teachers to keep up to date with practice and to check out material for their students, and of course for their own cerebral development. In the past we have been more flexible in considering who gets a free card, but we've had so many requests that weren't in accordance with the initial purpose that we've decided to limit the definition of a teacher as one who works for an educational establishment in a teaching capacity.

There are three ways to get a Teacher's Discount Card:

Download the Teacher's Registration Form as a .doc or .pdf
Then:
  a. bring a pay slip to the store and register or update your details at one of the cash desks (you could bring a filled in form).
  b. send a copy of your pay slip, with the Teacher's Registration Form to: The American Book Center, Marketing Dept., Spui 12, 1012 XA Amsterdam.
  c. email a scanned copy of your pay slip, with the Teacher's Registration Form to market@abc.nl.

If your request is honored you will receive your card by mail.
