Free Relationship Workshop in Amsterdam!

I Need Your Love, Approval and Appreciation – Is That True?

You’re invited to a free ABC Spiritual Book Club-session on Relationships by SBC-members Richard Kwakernaak and Sagar Simon!

In the words of John Milton (Paradise Lost):

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”

Many people look for a relationship, hoping it will be heaven, only to find out it can be hell! In the words of Byron Katie: “Everyone agrees that love is wonderful, except when it’s terrible…” So what role does our mind play in creating a loving and lasting bond with someone and how can we leave our self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours behind?

In this workshop Richard Kwakernaak and Sagar Simon look at how our beliefs, desires and attitudes about relationships, and the way we communicate, influence the quality of our relationships with other people and with ourselves.

They will approach the subject of relationships from various viewpoints, elaborating specifically on the fields of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Mindfulness and The Work of Byron Katie.

The workshop will be fun, revealing and leave you with tools you can instantly use when noticing stress!

*** This is an introduction workshop for Richard’s and Sagar’s workshop series in the ABC Treehouse in Amsterdam on June 29th, June 30th and July 1st! ***

Our Espresso Book Machine is working great and we’ve started printing all sorts of curious and unusual books on it. If you’ve popped in to the store and been disappointed that it wasn’t in use when you visited, you’ll be pleased to hear that starting February 7th, we’ll be holding walk-in demonstrations on Monday Nights. Come along to ABC Amsterdam’s Second Floor any time between  6:30pm and 7:30 pm to see books being made. Maria will be on hand to answer any questions about the Espresso Book Machine and how it all works. In the meantime, there’s lots of information on how to have your own work printed on our EBM site.

If you’re interested in self-publishing, Jo Parfitt is holding a workshop at the ABC Amsterdam Treehouse this Saturday on “How To Write and Publish a Book”. There are still places available – see the blog post for all the details.  A host of other events for authors are planned to follow this one. We’ll be telling you about them later this month, once the details are ironed out.

Jo will also be available for free personal consultations in our Amsterdam store on Saturday February 5th. Sign up for a 15 minute appointment by sending an e-mail with your details to hayley@abc.nl. There’s more information on the clinic in the blog post.

Writing as Therapy: A Course on Spontaneous Writing

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Coming up this February in the ABC Treehouse in Amsterdam is a unique course on the therapeutic benefits of writing. By writing you will get to know yourself better, become more authentic and autonomous, learn to stand on your own feet and become who you are instead of who you thought you should be.

By writing spontaneously we can explore:

  • our awareness in the Here and Now
  • our anxieties in the light of our daily realities
  • childhood memories that condition our life stories
  • dreams and plans for our futures
  • disappointments, anger, obsessions
  • our longings for love and for our other half
  • whatever other topic that needs our attention

Not your head but your hand will do the work if you keep it moving.  Don’t worry about spelling, grammar, punctuation.  Your writing does not have to be logical. Go for the unknown, take risks and Write Your Own Ongoing Life Story

Tine van Wijk and Guy Elsey are your guides for course in spontaneous writing. Tine is a writer and has a Gestalt practice in Amsterdam. Guy is a Gestalt therapist in Amsterdam with an Australasian background.

There will be two  introductory sessions on February 5 and 12. (3-6 PM Cost: € 25.) This is followed by the a seven-module weekly course, taking place from February 19 to April 2. (3-6 PM; Cost course: € 245)
