Awards! Henry Hitching’s The Secret Life of Words won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize (for literature by a UK/Commonwealth writer under 35). He beat out Aravind Adiga, amongst others. See the shortlist here.
- Awards II! Marcus Trescothick, former England cricketer, won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year for his autobiography Coming Back to Me. Also, London’s mayor’s sister, Rachel Johnson, won the Bad Sex Award for her novel Shire Hell. And Alex Ross won the Guardian’s First Book Prize for The Rest is Noise.
