Author Events in January/February

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

New Year’s Resolution #1: present the author events per two months every month, so that maybe we can alert you to interesting people before everything’s sold out.  :-)

Thursday Jan. 14th: Jonathan Safran Foer at the John Adams Institute in Amsterdam.  The writer of the book most often mentioned in our Favorites of 2009 will be holding a Q&A from 16 – 18 hours at Paradiso, but, case in point, it’s sold out.  But check the site for info regardless, you never know if there’s a last-minute option for more tickets somewhere.  Nice detail: he’ll be singing his books.  :-)

Thursday Jan. 14th – Sunday Jan. 17th: Not to worry, if you can’t make it to Mr. Foer’s talk in Amsterdam, come over to Den Haag to join the festivities that make up the Winternachten Literary FestivalCheck out the program here; among the writers due to make an appearance are Antjie Krog, Tash Aw, Junot Diaz, and Jonathan Safran Foer (there he is again!).

Saturday Jan. 23rd: Book launch of author and illustrator Merijn Hos’s latest, The Marigolds, at the ABC in Amsterdam, from 15.00 hrs onwards.  See the full blog post with details here.

Sunday Jan. 24th: James Ellroy will talk, be interviewed, and sign books at the West Indisch Huis in Amsterdam from 15.00 hrs onwards, again at the invitation of the John Adams Institute.  Note, he’ll be singing his books also.  (I just love that idea :-) )

Friday Feb. 5th: Jesse Jackson will be the keynote speaker at the fourth event of the John Adams Institute’s New America Series, to discuss diversity in the US.  The event will be held at the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, starting at 20.00 hrs.
