Simone at ABC The Hague recently received a bundle of beautiful books on booze cocktails (not just alcoholic) drinks and how to make them. We hope they’ll get you through the last days of winter intact, or else provide inspiration for the languorous summer days to come (yes, we’re eternal optimists here):

F. Scott Fitzgerald has been called America’s drunkest writer; his fondness for a drop has been blamed for his early death at just 44, but he also claimed that it made him the writer he was. On Booze is a new collection of Fitzgerald’s writings on drinks, drinking, and his life as an alcoholic.
The book contains selections from the author’s notebooks and letters, as well as his previously published books, in particular, The Crack Up. Sometimes the link to booze is tenuous, sometimes the pieces are brief, but each one is a gem, a testament to how great a writer Fitzgerald really was. They are witty, and they are also sad, showing an author declining into complete disillusionment with his craft, forced to choose between being a good author and being a good man.
We have three copies of On Booze to give away, courtesy of the fine people at Pan Macmillan. To enter the draw, just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11am on Monday December 19th. Please include your contact details and tell us which ABC store you would like to collect your prize from.
