Event Report: Patti Smith Book Signing

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

On Friday, July 6th, 2012, music icon and National Book Award winner Patti Smith graced ABC Amsterdam for one hour to sign books.

What you may not be aware of is that we only got the green light for this signing one week earlier.  We sent out press releases, mailed all kinds of websites and affiliated groups, facebooked it, tweeted it, put up a window display – in other words, we tried very hard, in such a short time, to get the word out that she would be there, so that all her fans would at the very least be aware of this opportunity, and hopefully manage to get themselves over to the store as well!

Happily, a lot of you made it.  People lined up at the front door before Ms. Smith arrived, and the queue stretched all the way around the corner of the store.  We had a few strict rules to abide by, but they did ensure everyone had a chance to get something signed.

Thank you to all of you who came for keeping calm and carrying on, and we hope the encounter with your personal hero was worth it (even if it was ever so brief!).

Cutrone will talk about her career as a leading fashion publicist and brand strategist and most important share insights from her books If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You, and Normal Gets You Nowhere.

Kelly will also speak at the TEDx Amsterdam Women conference on December 1.

About Kelly Cutrone

When Kelly Cutrone’s first book, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside, was initially published, young people flocked to this new voice—finally, someone was telling them like it is, in a language they spoke. It quickly became a New York Times bestseller and stayed on the list for eleven weeks, and fashion publicist Kelly Cutrone became more than a personality; she became a beloved guru, mentor, and fairy godmother.

Kelly Cutrone has long gone against the grain. From her all black, no makeup trademark look despite her career in the image obsessed fashion industry, to her being living proof that you don’t have to do things in a certain order to be successful, to her being a very happy working single mom,

Kelly costarred on MTV’s the Hills and the City, she executive produced and appeared on the aptly entitled Bravo/TLC debut “Kell on Earth” which earned her rave reviews and helped her consecrate her devout following of devotees. Currently Kelly can also be seen as a correspondent on the highly acclaimed U.S. daytime talk show Dr. Phil. In March 2012, for season 18, Kelly will appear as a judge of the international hit TV show America’s Next Top Model.

A powerful force in the fashion industry for over 25 years, Kelly is the owner and CEO of the internationally recognized fashion PR and marketing firm, Peoples Revolution. Most importantly, Kelly is the mother to her 9-year-old daughter Ava.

ABC Meets: Children’s author and illustrator Leanne Delehanty

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

The talented author and illustrator Leanne Delehanty has written and illustrated an exciting and beautiful new children’s book set in Amsterdam.

For naughty Jimmy the cat, Amsterdam is a world of cops, robbers, exquisite beauty, and terrible danger.

Jimmy certainly doesn’t expect to fall from the balcony, when he jumps onto the railing to get a better look at someone in the garden. As soon as his feet hit the ground, Jimmy realizes that he has landed into much more trouble than he bargained for. Who and what is that sinister creature in the garden shed? Whether he wants to or not, he will be thrust into a baffling new world.

Leanne is an energetic and entertaining storyteller, and we are thrilled that she wil be part of Children’s Book Week at ABC when she visits us to read from Jimmy and The Pink Diamond.

  • Leanne will be at the ABC Treehut in our store in The Hague on Sunday October 9th from 3pm to 4pm.
  • On Wednesday October 12th Leanne will visit ABC Amsterdam from 3pm to 4pm, on the first floor.

She’ll read from her book, and you’ll have a chance to have your copy signed and have a chat. Copies will be available in our stores soon.

You can see images from Jimmy and The Pink Diamond on Leanne’s website, or on the book’s facebook page.

About the author:
