What was YOUR favorite book of 2008?

If your read Do You read Me? then we know you are an incorrigable book lover. Did one book stand out for you in 2008? Which book have you recommended to others? Which were you thnking about long after you had read the last chapter? What was YOUR favorite book of 2008?

    … and I also liked Vellum & Ink by Hal Duncan (‘liked’ is putting it mildly), the Regeneration trilogy by Pat Barker (if you have to read three books about the Great War, read those) and This Is All: the Pillow Book of Cordelia Kenn, by Aidan Chambers (takes a lot to make me read books about teenage girls – this did it).
    And I haven’t started on my non-fiction favourites yet…

    Hard to choose, but I suppose I got myself into that ;-) OK, here’s two: Skin Lane by Neil Bartlett and (such a surprise) Anathem by Neal Stephenson. And just to make the Neils complete, if Gaiman had anything new this year, put that on the list as well :-)
