Tafel 18 is the moving yet entertaining history of an Italian restaurant in Amsterdam. At the same time, it contains the memoirs of Nicoletta Gezzi, restaurant owner for 35 years. In many short chapters, Gezzi recollects her youth in Italy, her experiences as an enterprising woman in a new country and the daily joys and woes of family life and working in the restaurant, which is much more than just a place to work. The restaurant is a theater stage from which she observes life, hers and that of others.
