TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives.
TED is also an annual conference, where interesting people get about 18 minutes to tell a story on business, tehcnology, entertainment, science, design or global issues. You can see hundreds of these illuminating, fascinating, educating, stimulating talks online on TED.com. (If you have important things to do in the next couple of hours, hold off on clicking that there link – once you enter the TED archive, you will be distracted and entertained for hours and hours by videos like this:
Smaller TED conferences are also held all over the world: TEDx. The third edition of TEDxAmsterdam is all about Human Nature and will be hosted by the Stadsschouwburg on November 25th, 2011.
This year’s TEDxAmsterdam aims to bring you some of the most valuable insights on ourselves: the human being. “What is it like to be human?”, we ask. When we choose, the impact of our choices is unknown. We’re focusing on human accomplishments, people’s unbreakable spirits and practical wisdom able to change the natural environment we’re living in. Next to that we will take you a step further and invite speakers that highlight irrationality, human error and unexpected connections: exploring the darker sides of our mind is intriguing.
Attendance at TEDx is free, but by invitation only. And those invitations are like golddust. Fortunately you can still see all the TEDx lectures at ABC! We’ll be streaming the event live at the ABC Amsterdam Treehouse on November 25th, 2011. No reservations are necessary – Seating will be on a first-come, first served basis, as capacity allows.
- Date: November 25th
- Time: All day – 9am to 6pm
- Cost: Free! Come and go as you please!
