Oprah’s new title

The Story of Edgar SawtelleThe Story of Edgar Sawtelle (US edition)Oprah picked her 62nd book:  The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski.  There was quite a buzz about this book before it was published, and it’ll only get crazier now, of course.  It promises to be a modern-day retelling of Hamlet (set in Green Bay Packers country), and from all I’ve read about it, the prose is gorgeous.

Read it now and, when the show airs here in a few months, you get to say to the screen how right (or wrong) she was.  Of course, you can get a head start by opinionating in the comments here!

Did you guess right, by the way?

I’m the only one on the planet who hates this book, but color me crazy when I say the Midwest Shakespeare theme has been covered already. A Thousand Acres, Undiscovered Country…..I’m sure there are more. The only reason Oprah picked this book was because it’s the kind of thing that “feels” intellectual (but isn’t) and it features lots of dogs.
