Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Tweet To Win: All three Fifty Shades of Grey books!

Monday, June 4th, 2012

This is publishing anno 2012: a book skyrockets to the number one spot on the New York Times Bestseller list, without the backing of a major publisher, and without even being widely available in book stores. E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey, and its two sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, were published by a tiny house in Australia, making global distribution difficult and expensive. The bulk of the sales of this Twilight-inspired erotic romance were of the e-books, bolstered by word of mouth praise that referred to “THE book.” Once this buzz reached the mainstream media, interest in the series was phenomenal, leading to Random House quickly nabbing E.L. James and rushing out paperback editions of all three books. A boxed set of all three novels will be in our stores later this month. We’re reading them and finding them utterly compelling – a wonderful, guilty pleasure. :-)

Fifty Shades of Grey
When literature student Anastasia Steele is drafted to interview the successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey for her campus magazine, she finds him attractive, enigmatic and intimidating. Convinced their meeting went badly, she tries to put Grey out of her mind – until he happens to turn up at the out-of-town hardware store where she works part-time. Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

Fifty Shades Darker
Daunted by the singular sexual tastes and dark secrets of the beautiful, tormented young entrepreneur Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele has broken off their relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house.
But desire for Christian still dominates her every waking thought, and when he proposes a new arrangement, Anastasia cannot resist. They rekindle their searing sensual affair, and Anastasia learns more about the harrowing past of her damaged, driven, and demanding Fifty Shades. While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront her anger and envy of the women who came before her and make the most important decision of her life.
Erotic, sparkling and suspenseful, Fifty Shades Darker is the irresistibly addictive second part of the Fifty Shades trilogy.

Fifty Shades Freed
When unworldly student Ana Steele first encountered the driven, damaged young entrepreneur Christian Grey, it sparked a sensual affair that changed both their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and ultimately repelled by Christian’s singular sexual tastes, Ana demanded a deeper commitment; determined to keep her, Christian agreed. Now, together, they have more–love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of infinite possibilities. But Ana always knew that loving her Fifty Shades would not be easy and being together poses challenges neither of them ever anticipated. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own integrity, identity, or independence; Christian must somehow overcome his compulsion to control and lay to rest the horrors that blighted his past and haunt his present. Just when it seems that together their love can conquer any obstacle, tragedy, malice and fate combine to make Ana’s worst nightmares come true. Alone and desperate, she must face down the poisoned legacy of Christian’s past. Seductive, shocking, sad, and funny, Fifty Shades Freed is the compelling final volume in the Fifty Shades trilogy.

Tweet To Win: A Signed copy of I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

Sophie Kinsella is the author of the bestselling Shopaholic series, as well as five stand-alone novels.  Her actual name is Madeline Wickham, as which she also wrote books before finding runaway success as Sophie.

Tweet To Win: Boom Chicago tickets!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

With sharp comedy and quick thinking, Boom Chicago’s show Branded For Life focuses on the choices we make and why. These decisions happen not just in the store, but everywhere in our lives. Why do we love some things and mock others? When you’re talking about products, or even people, it’s all about the brand, baby.

Branded For Life also shines a light on those who shape our opinions. Mad Men, marketers and spin doctors work behind the scenes to pull our strings and “engage” us.

But this is not just another improv show: come to dinner and drinks before the show and have yourself and your friends rebranded. Or take part in one of the spin-off events, including private, tailored branding sessions. You can find out more on the Boom Chicago website. The show premieres April 11. Want to see it for free? Read on!
