Spotlight on: Health and Wellness

Friday, July 5th, 2013

Dear customer,

We want to let you know about a new section we have in the White Room of our Amsterdam store: Healing of Body, Mind & Spirit.

Books from different disciplines and ways of thinking come together here to create a cross-section offering a holistic view on health and healing. It’s not just our bodies we need to heal with food and exercise, we also need to change our minds with new paradigms and different ways of thinking, to connect with our Source, our soul, through meditation, kundalini yoga or prayer. What we offer here are ‘books we think you should know about’ as we like to call them, books that have made an impact on our lives as buyers for the spirituality, health, nutrition, and body work sections.

But that is only half of what we want. We don’t just want to tell you about our books, we also want to hear about your books, about your experiences, so we can expand the section and make it even more comprehensive. Our society faces not only a health crisis but also a lack of spirituality, and we want to offer an alternative, a place where you can come to as a source of information about how to heal on all levels in life. We know, BIG intentions for such a small new section, but lives can be saved with just one book, happiness can be gained through just one chapter, and the purpose of a bookstore can be altered by just one section. When you visit us, have a look to see what we have to offer, or check out our monthly booktip on Facebook. And when you have something to share with us, write to us at

Wishing you health and happiness.

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Let us be your personal shoppers!

ABC’s booksellers don’t just sell books: as well as being voracious readers, almost all ABC staff members are personally responsible for buying the books for one or more sections in the stores. That means you’ll always find someone who can put exactly the right book in your hands when you need it. We asked our buyers for their tips for the best gifts for the upcoming holiday season, and they came up with some great ones: new books, classic books, magazines, games, merchandise, and stationery.

Today you’ll find gift ideas for Consciousness, Religion, Self-Help and Body/Mind/Spirit as supplied by Femke, Martijn and Agnes.

ABC’s Spiritual Book Club in The Hague: Loving What Is

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

On January 16th, we will have our second meeting of ABC The Hague’s Spiritual Book Club, from 19:30-21:30 at the ABC Treehut!

We will be discussing Byron Katie’s Loving What Is:

“Out of nowhere, like a fresh breeze in a marketplace crowded with advice on what to believe, comes Byron Katie and what she calls “The Work.” In the midst of a normal life, Katie became increasingly depressed, and over a ten-year period sank further into rage, despair, and thoughts of suicide. Then one morning, she woke up in a state of absolute joy, filled with the realization of how her own suffering had ended. The freedom of that realization has never left her, and now in Loving What Is you can discover the same freedom through The Work.

The Work is simply four questions that, when applied to a specific problem, enable you to see what is troubling you in an entirely different light. As Katie says, “It’s not the problem that causes our suffering; it’s our thinking about the problem.” Contrary to popular belief, trying to let go of a painful thought never works; instead, once we have done The Work, the thought lets go of us. At that point, we can truly love what is, just as it is. Loving What Is will show you step-by-step, through clear and vivid examples, exactly how to use this revolutionary process for yourself.”

What is the Spiritual Book Club?

The Spiritual Book Club’s focus is on practical Spirituality. “How do I apply these spiritual insights in my own life?” “How can I stay centered in the hectic of every day living?” are questions we will address during our discussions. Coming together with other “spiritual seekers” from all over the world in an ambiance of mutual respect and relaxed openness is what the Spiritual Book Club is all about.

This session replaces last month’s cancelled meeting.
