Five New(ish) Audio Books*:

*Section only at ABC The Hague – there’s twice-weekly internal shipping though, if you want to collect something in Amsterdam!  Please note that a red abridged sign will be visible on any editions that are.  And finally, I would have included Steve Jobs, except it never even made it from the box to the shelf before it was sold!

Six Brand-New (and Newly Arrived) Titles from the Audio Books Section*:

*I can only speak for ABC Den Haag here; I don’t believe ABC Amsterdam has a separate audiobooks section.  We’ll gladly send an audiobook Amsterdam’s way, though, if that’s the ABC you live closest to!

Audio Books – your new favorite holiday soundtrack

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

The summer holidays are just around the corner and loads of you will be traveling back home for a spell, or will be exploring Europe a bit further, or will take the plunge into uncharted Pacific islands, or will simply go to a local beach or park for some well-deserved R&R.  Before you get there, though, you’ll spend a few hours (if not days) in transit.

Have you ever considered audio books as your traveling soundtrack?

The staff in Den Haag certainly hope so!  We’ve been stocking up on audio books to send you off on a good trip.  How about some Agatha Christie mysteries or the complete Lord of the Rings?  Or The Lovely Bones?

If you have kids, we have the entire Twilight series for you.  As well as The Cat in the Hat, and The Gruffalo, and Pippi Longstocking, to name a few.

If there’s just the two of you, how about something steamier like J. R. Ward’s Lover Avenged or Laurell K. Hamilton’s Skin Trade?

We didn’t only gather fiction titles, though.  How about some Leading Change by Philip Kotter and Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers?  Or Reappraisals by Tony Judt?  Or You: The Owner’s Manual? Meditations for Personal Healing?

Want some laughs – well, we’ve got Fawlty Towers.  And QI.

The marvelous thing about audio books is that you not only get a great story, but also a compelling voice to tell them to you.  Rupert Penry-Jones will purr the (mis)adventures of Flashman in your ear while Thomas Friedman will take you from Beirut to Jerusalem himself.  President Obama tells his own stories, too.

As you can see, plenty of choice.  We have the books, too, of course!  And if you want something we don’t have at the moment, remember that we can always order from the US (7 – 10 days delivery time) or the UK (7 days delivery time).
